You plan your wedding for a year, possibly longer. Spend hours picking the perfect flowers, try on hundreds of dresses until you find “the one”, and taste multiple cake flavors. From the calligraphy on your stationery to the place settings, and everything else. You spend thousands of hours planning your wedding day to perfection.
When photographing your wedding details, you want these photos to be just as beautiful as the rest of your day and today I am providing you with a few helpful tips to really make these photos pop.
Put together a box to keep your small details together
This includes things like your jewelry, perfume, shoes, rings, vow books, and wedding invitation/save the date. The first thing I will do is to settle in for the day photographing these small details of yours. I don’t want to interrupt you too much since you will likely be in the chair getting your hair and make-up done. So, the best thing you can do a few days before the day is collect all your smaller items and place them in your shoe box. This goes for your fiancé as well. Things like their cufflinks, watch, tie and tie clasp, ring, shoes, and anything else they might have.
When breaking in your shoes wear clean socks
When shooting your shoes, you don’t want to see dirt/sweat marks from breaking them in.
Ask your florist if they can bring a few loose stems and buds for your detailed photos
You would be surprised at what a few fresh florals will do to elevate your invitation and jewelry photos.
Buy a special hanger for your dress
A hanger is a fun personalized touch to your dress photo. I always keep an antique gold hanger in my styling kit if you don’t have one. But purchasing one with your date, new last name, or even the word bride is a beautiful touch. Your bridesmaids’ dresses will also be photographed so gifting your girls a hanger with their names on it is a great idea.
Invest in a monogrammed Mrs. box
These are vintage velvet ring boxes that you can have personalized and do wonders when photographing your gorgeous ring and wedding band. And on that note: Don’t forget to have your rings cleaned right before your wedding day.
Make sure your coordinator knows to not let guests into your reception space until your photographers have photographed the space
This is something that gets forgotten in the planning stages but so much work went into your reception space that you want to see all those elements before a single bag is set down, untouched and perfect. Your photographer only needs 5 to 10 minutes to get this done.
As you plan your wedding don’t forget to keep these tips in mind. Don’t forget to save this article to come back to as your get closer to your wedding day.
