Charlotte and Anup’s wedding weekend started with good food, a packed room of people they love, and plenty of catching up at Renata’s Kitchen in Philadelphia. Their Philadelphia rehearsal dinner evening brought family and friends together for dinner, drinks, plenty of conversation, and a chance to spend time with one another before the wedding day officially began. Between the intimate setting at Renata’s Kitchen, the outdoor patio surrounded by greenery, and a room full of people who were clearly very excited to see each other, there were so many wonderful moments to photograph throughout the night.

Renata’s Kitchen was such a fun setting for Charlotte and Anup’s Philadelphia rehearsal dinner. The restaurant has a warm, modern interior with large windows and plenty of natural light, while the outdoor patio feels almost tucked away from the city thanks to all of the surrounding greenery. For the dinner, the tables were kept simple with small arrangements of white flowers and greenery alongside glowing candles. It was just enough to make the space feel special for the occasion while still keeping the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant.
Guests could move easily between the indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the evening, which made the entire celebration feel especially social. Instead of everyone staying in one assigned spot, people were able to grab a drink, catch up around the tables, head outside, and make their way around the room as more friends and family arrived.

One of my favorite things about rehearsal dinners is getting to photograph all of the interactions that naturally happen when everyone starts arriving. There were hugs at the door, family members catching up, and conversations happening in every corner of Renata’s Kitchen. Charlotte and Anup had people gathered around them throughout the evening, but there was also so much happening beyond the two of them. Of course I want plenty of photos of my couple, but I also want them to be able to look back and see what the rest of the room felt like. All of those interactions become part of the story of the weekend too.

Charlotte and Anup’s Philadelphia rehearsal dinner evening was also filled with details that made their celebration feel personal to them and their families. Guests arrived in a beautiful mix of colorful dresses, suits, saris, and other traditional attire, which brought so much color into the photographs. Henna was also part of the evening, and I loved being able to photograph both the process and the finished designs. Your wedding day will have its own traditions, details, and timeline, but the night before often gives you another opportunity to document the people and pieces of your celebration that are important to you.

For me, rehearsal dinner evenings like this are less about creating a long list of posed photographs and more about paying attention to what is already happening. I want the photos to bring you back to the actual experience of being there: who you talked to, who made you laugh, what the room looked like as everyone settled in, and all of those interactions you might not have even noticed in the moment. We still made time for photographs of Charlotte and Anup with some of the people closest to them, but so much of their gallery came from simply letting the evening unfold.

If you’re already considering photography coverage beyond the wedding day itself, I will always make a case for the rehearsal dinner. Your wedding day moves quickly, and even with plenty of time built into the timeline, there are a lot of people to see and a lot happening around you. A rehearsal dinner gives you another evening with many of those same people in a completely different setting.
Charlotte and Anup’s Philadelphia rehearsal dinner at Renata’s Kitchen was an evening filled with conversation, hugs, beautiful traditions, and the people they love all together in one place before the wedding day.
