You can absolutely dress up a little more for Longwood, too. In fact, I think the formality of the gardens and architecture lends itself especially well to an elevated engagement session look.
Whatever you choose, the most important thing is that you still feel like yourselves. I want you to be able to walk comfortably, relax together, and enjoy the session rather than spending the entire time adjusting an outfit that doesn’t feel natural to you. And don’t forget comfortable shoes! There is quite a bit of walking involved, so if you want to wear heels for your photographs, bringing another pair for walking between locations can make the experience much more enjoyable.
Give Yourself Time to Enjoy the Gardens
Longwood isn’t a location where I would want to rush through a checklist of predetermined photo spots. Part of what makes an engagement session here so lovely is simply walking the property together and seeing where the evening takes us. There may be a garden that’s especially beautiful that week, a pathway with gorgeous light, or a corner we weren’t originally planning to use that ends up creating some of my favorite photographs from the session. Leaving room for that spontaneity is important to me. I always have a plan and know the photographs we want to create, but I also want enough space to notice the little things happening in front of me.
