One of the questions I receive most often from couples while planning their engagement session is where we should go for photos. While there’s no shortage of beautiful Philadelphia summer engagement locations, some of the city’s most popular spots can become quite crowded during the summer months. And while a busy location isn’t always a problem, I find many couples feel most comfortable when they have a little room to breathe, walk together, and settle into the experience without feeling like they’re performing for an audience. If you’re looking for Philadelphia summer engagement locations that offer beautiful scenery and a more relaxed atmosphere, these are a few of my favorite options.

Fairmount Park is often one of the first Philadelphia summer engagement locations I suggest to couples who want their engagement session to feel relaxed and natural. While many people are familiar with the park itself, there are so many corners tucked throughout the grounds that rarely feel crowded.
What I love most about photographing sessions here is the variety. Within a short walk, we can move from open green spaces to tree-lined paths and historic stone architecture without ever feeling like we’re hopping between multiple locations.
For couples who want a touch of the city without being surrounded by crowds, there are several areas along the Schuylkill River Trail that photograph beautifully, particularly on weekday evenings.
I love recommending this with my Philadelphia summer engagement locations because it offers a little bit of everything. The water, the skyline views, the greenery, and the open space all come together in a way that feels distinctly Philadelphia while still allowing the focus to remain on the two of you.
Summer sunsets here can be especially beautiful. It’s a wonderful option for couples who love the city but want something a bit quieter than some of Philadelphia’s more heavily trafficked landmarks.

When couples tell me they love classic architecture, Old City is often one of the first places that comes to mind. The key is timing. Scheduling a weekday morning session allows us to enjoy the beauty of the neighborhood while avoiding much of the foot traffic that arrives later in the day. Some of my favorite photographs happen here simply walking hand in hand down a cobblestone street.
Although it’s a bit outside Philadelphia, Longwood Gardens remains one of the most beautiful engagement session locations in the area. For couples who are drawn to gardens, flowers, and a more romantic setting, it’s difficult to find a location with more variety. Every season offers something different, but summer is particularly beautiful when the gardens are at their fullest. The grounds are expansive, allowing us to create a gallery with tremendous variety while still maintaining a cohesive feel throughout the session.

For couples who feel most themselves outdoors, Wissahickon Valley Park offers a completely different experience from some of Philadelphia’s more formal locations. Rather than feeling like a photoshoot, sessions here often feel more like an afternoon spent together exploring.
I find that couples who are initially nervous about being photographed often relax quickly in this environment. There is something about being surrounded by nature that allows people to settle in and simply enjoy being together.

When helping couples choose a location, I always encourage them to think beyond what looks beautiful online. The best Philadelphia summer engagement session locations are often the places where you feel most comfortable being yourselves. Sometimes that means a historic Philadelphia street, sometimes it’s a garden, and sometimes it’s a quiet trail surrounded by trees. The location certainly contributes to the beauty of the photographs, but what matters most is creating an environment where you can focus on one another, enjoy the experience, and celebrate this season before your wedding day arrives.
If you’re planning your engagement session and aren’t sure where to begin, I’m always happy to help my couples choose a location that reflects both their personalities and the story they’re telling together.
